Conejo Canyons Moderate Hike – Western Plateau Loop from Hill Canyon
Conejo Canyons Moderate Hike – Western Plateau Loop from Hill Canyon
A moderate 5.8 mile hike with about 600′ of climbing. Along the way you will see all the sites this area has to offer – the grasslands of the Western Plateau, verdant Hawk Canyon and more distant volcanic cliffs and mountains.
Start at the parking area in Hill Canyon, cross the bridge to the Hill Canyon Trail and stroll a mile before turning right and up the Western Plateau Edison Road. Follow it for another mile and then turn left onto the informally named Hawk Canyon Rim Trail. Continue 0.8 miles before rejoining the Western Plateau Edison Rd, where you turn left. In only 200 feet, turn left again onto the Peninsula Trail and follow it to the bottom where it rejoins the Western Plateau Edison Road. Turn left and follow the road 0.3 miles to the bottom where you turn left onto the Hawk Canyon Trail. Stay on the southeast side of the stream until the trail dead-ends into the Hill Canyon Trail, where you turn left and follow it all the way back to the parking area.
From the 101 Freeway in Camarillo, take exit 52 onto Santa Rosa Road and drive northeast. After 5 miles, turn right onto Hill Canyon Rd. Continue to the parking on the left, 0.6 miles on.
