It’s New Map Monday: Oakbrook Vista & Little Sandstone Trails

Highlights
- Oakbrook Vista Trail quickly gains elevation to give a good view
over Oakbrook Regional Park and Lang Ranch Open Space to the north. You’ll get a
great view of Albertson Motorway as it winds it’s way up the hills. - The very rugged Little Sandstone Trail passes through what could be some of the most
beautiful sandstone rock formations in the county - The “Mini Tripeaks” on Little Sandstone Trail is a great place to explore the rock
formations, and to stop for a snack or lunch
Description
This short out-and-back route of only 4 miles has a lot of climbing. On the way out, 1.6 miles is
climbing, and that works out to about 600′ on average per mile of climbing. But the views you’ll
see on the way up are worth the effort! The Little Sandstone Trail climbs the ridge that leads to
Simi Peak. You’ll see amazing sandstone rock formations right beside the trail, and you’ll look
down into the rest of Oakbrook Regional Park. There are lots of places along the trail to sit on
a rock and have a snack or lunch while you take in the view. Being on a ridge, you’ll have your
choice of looking south over the neighborhoods along Kanan Road, or north over Oakbridge
Regional Park and Lang Ranch further away.
