Privacy Policy

The Conejo Open Space Foundation (“COSF,” “us,” “our,” or “we”) places a high priority on protecting your privacy. This privacy policy was created in order to demonstrate COSF’s firm commitment to the privacy of our members and website users. This policy explains what types of information is collected by the COSF.org website, including sub-domains, and how this information is used.

This Privacy Policy was last updated on June 4, 2019.

What Personal Data We Collect and When

We ask you for certain personal data to provide information to you regarding our services and activities, and to better tailor our services and programs to the needs and wants of the community in line with the Foundation’s goals.

These personal data include your contact details, such as name, email, address, telephone number, and when needed, emergency contact information.

These data are collected when you sign up for our quarterly newsletter, when you ask for COSF communications, when you volunteer for one of our or the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency’s (COSCA) or the Conejo Open Space Trails Action Committee’s (COSTAC) volunteer programs, or when registering for a COSF, COSCA, or COSTAC event or program. We may use this information for specific, limited purposes, and do not share this information with secondary sources or third parties beyond those delineated below.

Why and How Your Personal Data May Be Used

We use your personal data in the following ways: to provide you with personalized service, to send e-mail alerts to you, to answer your requests, to process your membership application, to register you for events and programs, to communicate information about our services and upcoming events, to track visitors to our website, and to further enhance the user experience. COSF uses your IP address for statistical purposes to measure website visitor traffic. This lets us see which of our features are the most popular so we can better serve our users’ needs. We do not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information for secondary purposes.

How We May Share Your Information

We partner with COSCA and COSTAC. Many of the programs we describe on our website belong to these other organizations. As such, online forms that volunteers may fill out on COSF.org, (such as Trail Watch, Trail Education Days, etc.) will result in all identifiable information on that form being forwarded to one or both of those sponsoring organizations and their agents, as well as being available to COSF. COSCA is a joint agency with the City of Thousand Oaks and the Conejo Recreation and Parks District (CRPD), so City and/or CRPD staff may also receive personal information as noted above. Once one of these other organizations receives personal information that originated from our website, those other organizations’ privacy practices come into effect.

Email Privacy

COSF does not provide, sell, or rent email addresses to anyone outside the organization. We may share your email address with COSCA and COSTAC as outlined above. You may always “opt out,” either now or at any time in the future, if you do not wish to receive our messages. To opt out, send an email to membership@cosf.org with the email address for which you wish to no longer receive our messages, or click on the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of the newsletter.

External Links

The COSF website at www.COSF.org includes links to external websites. These links do not fall under the www.COSF.org domain, and COSF is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of external websites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and the read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this website.

Modifications and Changes to our Privacy Policy

COSF periodically reviews and updates this privacy policy. If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes to our website. By continuing to access or use this website after those changes become effective, you agree to be bound by the revised Privacy Policy.
