Introduction to Geocaching Hike

To celebrate National Trails Day (the first Saturday in June every year), COSTAC and COSF lead an Introduction to Geocaching hike as a way to show folks an unusual (to most people) recreational activity in our open spaces!

The hike is generally only a few miles loop hike that will pass by a dozen or so geocaches. This is generally enough to give all participants a chance to find at least one.

In 2019, the hike was at the recently opened Sapwi Trails Community Park on June 1st. We started from the parking area near the corner of Erbes Rd and Scenicpark Street and covered 3 miles with 400′ of climbing. We found 9 geocaches hidden near the trail along the way. There was a disc golf tournament in the park when we were there so we saw lots of disc golfers and learned a bit about their sport.

Here are some photos from our Sapwi Trails geocaching hike.

In 2018, we hiked the Sunset Hills Trail, returning along the streets.
