It’s New Map Monday: Lynnmere, the Whole Enchilada, in Wildwood
Highlights
- This moderately strenuous route covers the entire trail and also Thistle Trail for a shortcut to get back to the beginning.
- The south leg traverses a ridgeline that is high enough to not only overlook the neighborhoods immediately to the south, but also the farther away neighborhoods of Wildwood.
- For mountain bikers, the north leg is a must-ride trail. However, there are some challenges on the south leg: steeper sections can have some big rocks and/or lots of smaller loose, slippery rocks.
Description
This is a fun loop of 6.6 miles that circumnavigates the Lynnmere neighborhood. The Lynnmere Trail is shaped like a skinny U lying on its side, with the open end to the east and the Lynnmere community in the middle. The route covers the entire Lynnmere Trail and the Thistle Trail that connects the north and south segments. The south leg of Lynnmere Trail traverses a ridgeline that gives great views in all directions.
For mountain bikers, the north leg is a must-ride trail. However, there are some challenges on the south leg that are best walked by everyone except professional riders.
If you feel like going a little further, there’s a spur to Lynnmere trail that leads down to the water treatment plant. On the map below, it’s at the very left edge in the middle. There is a stream at the bottom that you can’t cross without getting wet. This spur will add 1.2 miles and 450′ of climbing, out-and-back.

Distance: 6.6 miles.
Cumulative Climbing and Descent: Approximately 1200′.
Parking: Free at the side of the road at the top (north-west end) of Camino Magenta. There is also neighborhood parking where the route crosses two streets. There is no parking on Lynn Road at the east end of the Lynnmere Trail north segment.
