COSF contributes to the fennel eradication effort

Published by Steve Clark on

Fennel is an invasive non-native plant that can grow in grasslands, chaparral and alongside creeks. It can grow so dense that it complete excludes native plants and the animals and insects that rely on them.

In normal years COSCA organizes groups of volunteers to remove fennel from the open space throughout the spring and early summer. The plant has been nearly eradicated from Wildwood Park, so the focus in recent years has been on the Western Plateau and Conejo Canyons.

Volunteers were not able to do the work this year due to the pandemic so the agency hired work crews instead. To maximize those efforts, the Conejo Open Space Foundation donated payment for one work day.
