Congratulations to Yoko W. of Westlake Village who provided the correct answers and was selected as the winner. Thanks to all who responded!

The Lake Eleanor Trail is not actually next to Lake Eleanor, but some 200′ above it. However, both are in the Lake Eleanor Open Space area, hence the name. There are major access points at the top of Highgate Road in Westlake Village and the top of Denver Springs Drive. There are 1.3 miles of trail between these access points, with multiple spurs going in many directions, some of which connect to other neighborhood streets.

The main trail follows close to the top of a north-south ridge. The views from the trail are constantly changing and can be spectacular, particularly of the mountains to the south as seen in the photo. From different places, one can see east to the Las Virgenes Reservoir, or Lake Eleanor to the west, or overlook the neighborhoods to the north, east or south.

To help you explore this trail, follow our Easy Lake Eleanor Open Space Hike. The trail can also be ridden by mountain bike, so long as you’re comfortable with some short very steep sections, and some rocky stretches.

The photo was taken during exploration of the trail for this year’s Conejo Open Space Challenge.
