Why You Should Give on Giving Tuesday
Founded in 2012, Giving Tuesday—observed on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the 4 days that follow—celebrates the spirit of philanthropy and charity. From a local start in New York City, the movement has expanded worldwide over the past 8 years.
Like other charities, the Conejo Open Space Foundation (COSF) welcomes the opportunity to appeal to the best in people and we put donations collected on Giving Tuesday to work for our open spaces and their users. Because we are an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization, no money goes to salaries, but instead returns to benefit the Conejo Valley trails community.
As you make a year-end gift to COSF this year, consider some of the projects that your past donations helped fund. Some important efforts your dollars paid for in 2020 include….
-
College scholarships, starting in 2021, for local young people committed to studying environmental science;
-
Prizes for winners of the popular Conejo Open Space Challenge, where trail enthusiasts compete to hike 10 designated trails;
-
A $10,000 pledge toward research and construction of the Wildlife Crossing over the 101 freeway at Liberty Canyon;
-
Support for COSCA’s annual migratory bird–monitoring and non-native plant removal programs;
-
Production of a pandemic-safe nature hike video for CVUSD students in lieu of our annual in-person Trails Education Days.
December marks the start of COSF’s annual membership drive and fund-raising campaign. Get a jump on it now by joining the millions of people giving to their favorite charities on Giving Tuesday!
